C2C Iron Bike Challenge for NOTAA
Please help us with your sponsorship: C2C bike challenge
A group of us are going to do the Coast to Coast Bike ride from Whitehaven to Sunderland from the 8th to 10th September to raise money for the North West Trauma Alliance for Africa (NOTTA). This is a charitable organisation that supports two trauma development projects in Africa.
In order to add to the challenge, as a group we are aiming to complete the ride on a Malawi Bicycle Taxi style of bike (Think heavy 1950’s style bike – hence Iron Bike Challenge). We will all take it in turns to ride the Iron Bike Taxi, as well as riding nice light weight modern bikes!
1) Orthopaedic Implants for Malawi – this project raises funds to buy cost effective orthopaedic implants to enable trained orthopaedic surgeons treat patients with broken bones. This project has been running since 2010 and has enabled the treatment of hundreds of patients enabling them to return to good funnction and support their family and dependants. Provision of implants has also meant that new trainee surgeons in Malawi have been able to learn the skill and techniques required to treat more patients in the future. True sustainable development! 100% of the money raise for this fund is used to purchase and ship implanys and equipment.
2) Trauma Education for Ethiopia – this project was set up by NOTAA in 2015 to support the development of a new orthopaedic trauma service in Hawassa in Ethiopia. Hawassa Referral Hospital serves a population of nearly 10 million people, and now has three orthopaedic surgeons, and trauma ward and a dedicated trauma theatre. However, to ensure that good results from surgery are acheived it is essential that there is an ongoing program of eduction. NOTAA has commited through volunteers to support physiotherapy and theatre nursing eductation with educational materials, and on site eductation.
The League of Friends of Wrightington Hospital has kindly supported our fund raising efforts since 2010 and all of the money donated and gift aid added raised through this event will be split between the two projects above
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity’s behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
